Ten Tunes For Hillary
Mrs. Clinton asked people to pick her campaign song on YouTube, and the choices are down to ten. The five songs that got the most votes:
- "Suddenly I See," KT Tunstall
- "Rock This Country!" Shania Twain
- "Beautiful Day," U2
- "Get Ready," The Temptations
- "I'm a Believer," Smash Mouth
- "Are You Gonna Go My Way," Lenny Kravitz
- "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now," McFadden & Whitehead
- "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic," The Police
- "You and I," Celine Dion
- "The Best," Tina Turner

Smash Mouth's "I'm a Believer"? For a campaign song?
Good grief.
"Suddenly I see," by KT Tunstall would be my choice. I love that song.
I like Every Little Thing She Does is Magic by The Police, but not for a political campaign. I understand why people select familiar, "All-American" songs for campaigns, but really, I wish they'd pick songs that weren't already associated with something else - someone else - a popular product or fast food chain or TV show has already used those songs, so they have too many references and ties to other things.
Also:
My favorite contemporary singer/songwriter, Duncan Sheik, is subtle with his pieces about politics, such as White Limousine and Good Morning. Okay, Good Morning is less subtle, but it's still intelligently expressed.
Here's a recent acoustic performance of White Limousine:

Futures by Jimmy Eat World is a powerful song that was written in hopes of better things for the 2004 election.
i liked this because it shows that campaigning can be fun ... wonder if they have to get permission from the musicians before they pick the song?
