Three Cheers for Chelsea Clinton!

Photo courtesy of Travelin' Librarian via Creative Commons

With her Mother's loss to Barack Obama in a close Democratic race, Chelsea Clinton heads back to a Manhattan apartment, a tiny dog, an understanding boyfriend, and a high-pressure hedge fund job.

The strongest weapon in her mother's campaign was her loyal endorsement: "My Mom would change things ... My Mom cares ... My Mom would be the best President ever!" Would have, could have, might still be in the running for Veep, Chelsea. Anyway, you did great, and we'll miss you on the trail.

See Ya Later, Sarah Huckabee!

As her father bows out of the race, we say buh-bye to Miss Sarah Huckabee. Sarah did a fantastic job as field director for her father's campaign and stayed 100% supportive, playing --and winning, obviously -- a game of "nap tag" with Dad a couple of days ago. We'll miss this wannabe, but have a feeling that she's on the political scene to stay.

Un Adiós Triste, Romney Five

As their Dad pulls out of the race today, Sparrow is sad to say goodbye to Josh, Matt, Tagg, Craig, and Ben. No matter what your politics, you have to admit that they're funny, smart, and great role models as sons, fathers, and husbands. We'll miss their blog, too. Blessings to you, Five Brothers!

Here's the word from their Papá:

"This is not an easy decision for me. I hate to lose. My family, my friends and our supporters... many of you right here in this room... have given a great deal to get me where I have a shot at becoming President. If this were only about me, I would go on. But I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, I feel I must now stand aside, for our party and for our country."

See Ya' Later, Rudy!

As "America's Mayor" pulls out of the race, we can only imagine the sighs of relief from Caroline and Andrew, who never wanted to be in the limelight even when the press tried their best.

Here's to success in the golfing world and at Duke (Andrew) and to a great experience at Harvard (Caroline). We also say goodbye to Whitney Mayer Houston, Rudy's stepdaughter.

Au Revoir, John Edwards and Family!

As John Edwards pulls out of the race today in New Orleans, Sparrowblog gives Cate, Emma Grace, and Jack a HUGE standing ovation for the fabulous job they did on the campaign trail.

We also send an especially loving farewell to Elizabeth Edwards, who took the time to comment on this blog, and is the epitome of courage and grace as she battles cancer. Peace be with you, Mrs. Edwards.

Sayonara, Jackie Kucinich!

As her Democrat Dad Dennis drops (how's that for alliteration?) out of the race today, we send Jackie off with many good wishes in her career as a journalist.

Fred Goes Back To Hollywood

Fred Thompson (who hopefully had a coffee with John Edwards at my suggestion) quit the race today, so all you first kid wannabe watchers out there can say goodbye to Tony, Daniel, Hayden, and Baby Samuel.

Adios, Bill Richardson

The only candidate without spawn is pulling out of the race today. He's also one of two candidates I've met face to face.

While we were overseas, Governor Richardson dashed across the planet to negotiate the release of an American in prison on drug smuggling charges. I met him at the Embassy just before he whisked the girl back to her parents.

Now you're wondering which other candidate I've met, right? Mrs. Clinton also visited that Embassy, along with her daughter. I doubt Chelsea remembers me as it was a while ago and they were on a whirlwind tour. All I can remember is thinking how pretty she was, even back then.

Bon Voyage, Christina, Grace, Beau, Hunter, and Ashley

We say goodbye to the youngest First Kids in Hoping (Christina, aged 5 and Grace, aged 3) as their Dad Chris Dodd pulled out of the race after the Iowa results, and to Joe Biden's three children also, as the Senator from Delaware decided to throw in the towel, too.

Colbert Nixed In South Carolina

He's out. We didn't even get the chance to know Madeline, Peter, and John, or their Mom, the lovely Evelyn McGee-Colbert.

Buh-Bye, Brownbacks

Goodbye To Tommy Thompson

After taking sixth place in the Iowa Straw Poll, Tommy Thompson's the first candidate to drop out of the race. No chance now for sisters Kelli and Tommi to become First Daughters, but heck, they were Governor's Girls from 1987-2001 in Wisconsin. They got to live here -- it's not the White House, but it's not too shabby, eh? The other good news is that both daughters obviously adore their father, and son Jason seems close to his Dad, too. Now that makes TT a real winner. Peace be with you, Governor Thompson, to your wife and children, and to those five grandbabies, too.
