What's Your Dad Up To, Sarah?

CNN reports that Sarah's still representing her father, Mike Huckabee. She told reporters yesterday that she's not the only one with that job description -- Governor Huckabee's signed a contract to be represented by one of the biggest talent agencies in tinsel town, Creative Artists Agency.

Mike and Sarah Huckabee on SNL

Governor Mike Huckabee takes his time exiting the set on Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update, and his daughter Sarah enjoys the after party, where she's described by Star Magazine editor Julia Alison as "completely grounded, with a fantastic sense of humor and a genuine likability, maturity and grace far beyond her 25 years."

Tired on the Trail

This long, exhausting campaign's getting stranger by the minute.

According to Peter Nicholas, Seema Mehta and Maeve Reston of the Los Angeles Times, Josh Romney's taken to surfing his dad's campaign signs down the aisles of jet planes.

Bridget McCain's Mom misses her, the dogs, and hiking so badly she's taking a day off and heading back to Arizona.

Hilary Clinton's addicted to big mugs of tea, Janet Huckabee's starting to rap, and Ann Romney's hugging Michelle Obama every time they see each other.

And it's not just the candidates and their families who are getting loopy; the journalists covering them can't see straight either. Think of the money Starbucks is making on double-shot ventis sold to these sleep-deprived people, and it's only February.

Happy Super Tuesday, America!

Sarah Huckabee: Hard Worker

Now we know that Sarah's two brothers and one sister-in-law are also slaving away on Daddy's campaign. Wonder if it's harder or easier to work with siblings than other people.

Secret Weapons: Meghan McCain and Sarah Huckabee

Check out Maria Menounos' take on these two savvy Daddy's girls:

Campaigning for candidate dads
Campaigning for candidate dads

Menounos found out some fun facts about these First Daughter wannabes, like the emails that go back and forth between Sarah and the Romneys "where they congratulate each other or say stuff like 'Your dad did great tonight' or 'Tell your dad to be nicer to my dad…ha ha.'" And that Meghan intends to keep blogging from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue ... that is if her Dad wins, of course.

Will Chelsea Speak?

"Believe me, we'd love to have her," a Clinton aide admitted to the Houston Chronicle, but the Clintons have protected Chelsea's private life through the years as much as possible. Now, with Meghan McCain, Cate Edwards (needs a new blog post but she's busy at Harvard Law), Sarah Huckabee, and the Romney brothers outspokenly present on the web and the trail, and her mother's campaign in need of a boost, Chelsea's public silence seems more noticeable. It's going to be interesting to see when -- and if -- she gives a speech or an interview.

Where Were Sarah and the Romneys?

During the back-to-back Republican and Democrats debates on ABC tonight, the cameras found Meghan, Cate, and Chelsea, but where was Miss Sarah Huckabee? Not to mention Tagg, Josh, Ben, Craig, or Matt?

Good News For Sarah Huckabee

Her Dad won the Republican vote in the Iowa Caucus, beating out the Romney brothers' papa by ... well, a lot. Mike Huckabee even gave his daughter credit, saying "Sarah lived in Iowa so long…(she) probably should have an Iowa drivers’ license and should be paying high Iowa taxes." Malia and Sasha are happy tonight, too, because their Daddy won on the Democrat side.

Sarah's On The Job

26-year-old Sarah Huckabee's happy but a bit more stressed out as her father's campaign gains steam. Jay Newton-Small of Time Magazine gives us the scoop on Sarah in an article he titled Huckabee's Family Field General

She inherited the organizational talents of her mother, Janet (who until recently worked for the Red Cross in Little Rock), and the passion for politics of her Dad, and no small amount of his famous charm. Asked about boyfriends, she fends off the question with a coy smile: "You're not going to put that in your story, are you?"

Sarah Huckabee: Unashamed Republican

"I travel with my Dad and call it work. It doesn't get much better than that," Sarah says in this interview with SC Hotline. Dad H. and his daughter got close going out to breakfast every Wednesday morning until Sarah graduated from high school. As for her father's objections to miniskirts, Miss Huckabee could "neither confirm nor deny" that she's guilty.

Sarah Huckabee, Field Director

You're a campaign employee, so you organize, recruit, manage, schmooze and promote. But when your candidate (a.k.a. "Daddy") thanks his supporters after a happy surprise second place finish in the Iowa Straw Poll, the daughter in you takes over and you get all choked up. Salon describes the moment:

At about that point, Huckabee's field director, who is also his 25-year-old daughter, Sarah, lost it. Her face turned red, her eyes overflowed, and she began wiping at her cheeks, over and over again.

No question about that staffer's long-term loyalty.

Sarah Huckabee Likes Mike

USA Today reports that Sarah Huckabee has "exchanged knowing quips" with the Romney brothers about campaigning. She's got something in common with me, too -- empathy for any first kid wannabe whose parent gets a dose of major media abuse:

"When their dad is getting beaten up," she said, "your heart just goes out to them. You understand you are in a place no one else is."

Sarah Huckabee Can't Keep Up

Mike Huckabee, the ex-governor of Arkansas who lost 110 pounds (see before and after photos here), eats a lot of cous-cous these days. He's also training for a marathon in Iowa and averages nine-minute miles. Do you know how fast that is when you have to run 26 miles? Even a lot of twenty-somethings can't handle that pace:

His daughter Sarah Huckabee ... says her father keeps in shape by waking at 4:30 in the morning to run. "I'm embarrassed to say I can't keep up with him," she says.
Sparrow Position: Westfield, New York, on the edge of blue, blue Lake Erie.

Sarah Campaigns For Dad Huckabee

25-year-old Sarah Huckabee, who's been called sweet and bright and engaging, is raising money for her father's campaign and blogging for him, too. Her Dad lost 110 pounds to fight diabetes, so Sarah's also tasting pies for him on the campaign trail -- an extra-sweet perk of trailing with your parent.

Homecoming King Huckabee in Trouble

Mike Huckabee's 26-year-old son David, who was crowned Homecoming King and elected Student Body President at Arkansas State University, has had a stressful year. First, his wife Lauren was in a car accident last fall (she's okay now). And yesterday, he was arrested at Little Rock airport when the X-ray machine found a gun in his carry-on.

Mini Huckabee's traveled before, so he knows the rules, but says he just forgot. "It's a pretty common occurrence," said the Little Rock police. "People with concealed handgun permits forget they have their guns in their bag. It's an honest mistake." I've never known anyone with a concealed handgun in their bag. Or maybe they just didn't tell me they had one. Yikes. Scary.

Anyway, other celebs have done the same thing, so I believe Huckabee. You'd be nuts to carry a gun through security on purpose; they find everything these days. I forgot that vial of antibacterial ointment Mom tucked in my backpack the last time I flew; I had to toss it. And how many sparkling, brand-new bottles of water have you lost at security? I've had a couple confiscated, get thirsty immediately, and can't bring myself to buy the three-dollar replacement at the newsstand by the gate. What a racket.
